What to Do on the Isle of Wight
A visit to the Isle of Wight can be an exciting and fun one that offers plenty of adventure and lots of charm.
The island is also very close to the mainland via Isle of Wight Ferries and makes a great short weekend break.
Below is a blog post that is going to give you top tips that will help you when you visit the beautiful island.
Visiting Blackgang Chine first
When you buy the Blackgang Chine tickets, they are going to be valid for seven days. If you plan on being there for a couple of days and you want to make the most out of your money, then you should begin by visiting Blackgang Chine. This means you can go back and visit it again. This applies to Robin Hill Country Park too. There is also an option for a combined ticket for both attractions which is also valid for seven days.
Checking the times at the Needles for the last entry
We got there at about 1 pm. As well as visiting the kids' rides and arcade, going on the chair lift ride, and playing on the beach, we also planned to spend time at the 4D Cinema, the Alum Bay glass making demonstrations, and the sweet making workshops. The Sweet-making Workshop, the 4D Cinema, and glass-making demonstrations have specific times. We were lucky that we made it to the last slot at the 4D Cinema and the glass making demo, but we did not make it to the Sweet-Making workshop. If I had checked the time before going to the beach and chair life, then we would have done one of those activities first, ahead of the other ones.
Holding onto your hats
You should hold onto your hat when you visit. This was a funny thing that happened when my hat flew off as we were watching the Hovercraft depart. I was forced to climb over the barrier to get to it.
Checking out daily activities before going to Monkey Heaven
It is a good idea to check out the timetable for activities that are going to take place there, so you don’t end up missing out on the things you would have loved to see. This includes Meerkat Mayhem, Monkey Brunch, Reptile Rendevous, and having a hoot with the owls. We really enjoyed Monkey Brunch and Meerkat Mayhem. Make sure you check out the schedule and plan accordingly.
Where to find a shade
There are some parts of Robin Hill Park that are exposed to the sun, but the good thing is there are many areas with a shade that provides you with an escape from the sun. The best place to get a shade at the African Adventure Playground and at the Tree Top Walks.
Making a packed lunch (the best time is the night before)
Kids usually want to eat all the time, especially when on days out. They can start asking you for lunch even before lunchtime. They can even ask for food the moment they get into the car. This makes it a good idea to pack lunch because it is easy and won't cost you a lot of money. Having lunch is going to be very convenient. It is okay to get a treat like ice cream, but you still need snacks and lunch.
Deciding what you are going to do depending on the weather
This can seem like an obvious thing, but you should check the weather before you decide what you are going to do each day. There are places with amazing indoor options too (A good example of this is the Tapnell Farm) and you can save them as a place you can go if the weather is not good. Places like Appley Beach are more appealing when the sun is shining.
Do not look down
The Needles Landmark Attraction has The Chairlift ride is an amazing experience that I am happy we got to do. When we reached The Needles, we went straight to the Chairlift first. This wouldn’t be the case if we had decided to go to the viewpoint first (this is the place where you can see the chairlifts as they go down to the sea) because I and the kids wouldn’t have had the courage to get on the Chairlift ride.
Bringing Cash for Parking
There were many car parks on the Isle of Wight that only accepted cash, so you need to make sure that you have some cash in your wallet before heading off. This is a tip that you can use when traveling anywhere.
