What to Pack for Your Next Trip to Costa Rica
You've already planned what to do and what to see on your trip to Costa Rica. Now, time for the hard part—what to pack. And once you start packing, the panicking and over-analyzing kicks in, and you find yourself doubting whether or not you have all the things you need. However, fear not, as this article explains what you should keep in mind when packing your suitcase!
Sanitary Items
Everyone is required to wear a facemask regardless, even in Costa Rica. At the moment, everyone, from citizens to tourists, are obliged to wear facemasks in closed spaces, such as hotels, airports, stores, banks, etc. So be sure to bring plenty of them.
You also need to remember to pack your hand sanitizer. Although most lots and establishments will have access to hand sanitizer, you should have one with you at all times.
Also, carry disinfectant wipes everywhere you go so you can wipe down certain items before using them, such as shopping carts or bus seats.
Most resorts and hotels have access to these items, especially places such as the Pura Vida House. Either way, it's always good to be prepared beforehand.
Appropriate Clothing
There isn't a dress code to follow if you plan to visit Costa Rica, but you do have to make sure the attire you pack will be comfortable and practical. For example, you'll most likely pack flip flops and shorts when visiting the beach but, when roaming through the city, it's best to wear closed-toed shoes, long pants, and long sleeve tops to protect yourself from the harsh sun rays.
The weather in Costa Rica is humid and hot, and you'll probably be sweating most of the time. So, pack clothing with a dry-fit fabric or one that absorbs moisture well and doesn't stick onto your skin. If you plan on visiting any rainforests, this will come in handy.
Medications and Other Essentials
An absolute must is mosquito repellent. Mosquitos are out and about in Costa Rica all year round. In fact, lots of mosquitos in Costa Rica carry a variety of diseases, including dengue fever. If you can get a repellant that works against all kinds of insects, then it'll be much better.
Sunscreen is something you cannot forget to pack. Costa Rica is just 8-12 degrees away from the equator, which means the sun's rays are a lot harsher. And even though you do apply sunscreen every day, there's still a slight chance you might get burned so, bring some aftersun too!
Even though you can find most toiletries in Costa Rica, such as shampoo and lotion, other essentials are very expensive to purchase, such as face wash. Also, tampons aren't available in every store, so be sure to bring enough of those as well. A medical kit is also an important thing you should pack with you.
What to Pack–Explained
Knowing what to pack for Costa Rica can be stressful, especially if it's your first time visiting that country. But, now that you know what to bring, you'll be able to enjoy your trip to Costa Rica even more!
