One of the most effective ways of organizing your files is by creating a folder structure that will fit the way you are using the computer. For instance, you may have certain folders within the My Documents folder for

 

  • School: Class reports and other notes.
  • Finances: Documents concerning taxes and budget.
  • Shopping: Various notes comparing different stores and products.
  • Work: Your resume and other work-related documents.
  • Home: Certain records concerning home improvement and maintenance.

 

Using the folders bar

 

When you are looking to visualize a hierarchical listing of every folder within a system you may go to your Folders bar. You may prefer this view while you are working with files and folders as it allows you to check the content of the chosen folder along with the other folders and drives on the computer. Your Folder bar makes things simpler to copy and move by dragging for example. For displaying the Folders bar you need to click the Folders button.

 

Navigating through the folders

 

All folder windows include a toolbar that can be used for navigating from folder to folder. It allows you to move back and forth within a prior viewed content window. It allows moving up a level within the folder structure to the requisite folder containing the files. For example, you can move up to a desktop level where you can open the drives and folders for moving on to other branches of the folder structure.
