What to do When You've Got Hot Feet

Sometimes it feels like you’re stuck in a rut and you don’t know what to do. There’s an energy inside you that makes you feel like you want to run away, as though you’re on hot coals and need to move your feet to somewhere safer. 

This is entirely normal and everyone has this sensation from time to time. The trick is to work out what’s going on and figure out a cure. Hot feet is usually a sign that something has to change so let’s start with the basics. 

 

 



Nothing gives you a better perspective of your lifestyle than checking out for a few days and getting some distance. You don’t need to spend a fortune on a beach hut on the other side of the world, even cheap holidays that are simply sun, sea and sand can help you relax and unwind. 

When you are on a beach, breathing deeply and listening to calming music, you will find that your mind clears, allowing you to see your life more objectively. Stress can cloud your thinking, leading you to anxiety that inhibits your ability to problem-solve. However you choose to destress - whether you need a 10 minute walk or a mini-break - make the most of your time. A holiday might feel like running away, but remember, this is only temporary. You still need to assess your priorities.

Your priorities are always going to fluctuate but if you are feeling swept up by life, you might not be able to address them properly. Taking some time out to really think about what you want and how you are going to get here is vital and you might need to do this more regularly than you think! 

Happy people tend to prioritize the same things: their health, their relationships and their passions. Prioritizing like this is hard because you are always going to be pulled in lots of different directions but this is where another principle works well, and that’s flexibility. 

 

Now you’ve taken some time and addressed your priorities, your feet should feel a bit calmer. This is the perfect time to work out what you are going to do now. You have the tools you need to change things up. 

For some people, changing things might be quite radical. Perhaps you will choose to leave a job you hate to become an armchair entrepreneur. Maybe you will decide to make more effort on the dating scene or make time to meet more people and expand your social circle. You might just want to find a new hobby or explore a hobby you already have. 

Having hot feet is a sign that something needs to change and you have the power to do that. All you need to do is give yourself the opportunity to figure out what gives and work out a plan to make things better. You are in control of your own life, you don’t need to run away, you need to work on what you’ve got.
